Don't forget how much the food costs too, even buying it in 20kg bags it's about £90 and we get through two of those in a summer.

 I think i need to re-think my design  I gave myself a budget of £1,000 roughly without the fish but i think i was way off Might have to scale down my design a bit! Just out of interest did you just use a normal window and window frame or are they specially designed for the purpose?

They are triple layered 17mm thick reinforced glass and we built the 'frames' ourselves by cutting back into the blockwork and then using expanding foam between the glass and the bricks 
As for budget, you don't need such a large filtration system if you don't have such a highly stocked pond. You could get something quite reasonable for a few hundred quid so long as you don't plan on keeping a lot of huge fish

Ah so its not 'that' complicated to do the window aslong as youve got the right glass.
I wasnt looking at having a lot of fish probably about 5-10 in total. Maybe 5 koi and a couple of other slightly smaller fish just for a bit of variety. Me and my dad know a lot about fish just not a lot about the costs involved

Sorry to hijack your theread..Ive managed to dig a few photos out, cant find any more unfortunatley...
my dad used to show all his koi at the northeast koi show years ago and got a load of trophies and plaques kicking about somewhere, he also went to japan in 2006 and bought the fish in the bowl below............ £7000 it cost him 
I personally cant justify spending that much money on a fish that could jump out the pond the next day and die, but that was his hobby.....
The fish were treat better than me lol, even had their own boiler to heat the pond, keeping the water at a temperature up to 24-26 degrees, also had a pond cover on in the winter to keep the chill off the pond....

Amazing fish :-) Our showa, like the one in the bowl above, was valued at £2500 but the only problem is finding someone willing to pay it. To be honest I would sell it for half of that if someone would give me the money because we were given it for free

cost around £10000 i think for everything including the shed all the filters and pumps,brickwork, mini digger hire, window, fibre glassing, hes a plumber and did all the heating and filters himself, so not sure how much that would cost, about 10 grand he rekons without fish
