If you can smell the fuel that usually means its getting fuel but not burning it.

I had the same spluttering/idle/petrol smell issues on my xe. Turned out to be split rubber fuel line that feeds the rail which I believe was caused by not using the car much and the fuel line drying out and becoming brittle. Do you use your car much? Just thought it was worth a mention.

No mate rarely use it. Maybe once a month if its sunny. I'm being lazy at the moment so need to knuckle down and check a few things. Cheers for your help

Checked the plugs to see if they're wet with fuel? Might not be sparking on all 4.

Update

Well I managed to get it running at least. Plugs were caked in black and even a little unburnt fuel so just dropped the fuel pressure down a few notches and it now seems to be running right. Just need to get it on a dyno now to see what power its making and get it set up properly and fingers crossed she'll be good to go.
Noticed my wheel was covered in CV grease so on further inspection noticed that this shitty little hole was the culprit an caused all the mess:

Think you have coilover clearence? Think again bud......

That is all for now

agreed, spacers arent a must on all coilovers. i havent got any.

how much have you lowered fuel pressure by? dont go spankin its arse if you havent got a wideband gauge until you have had it set up properly.
