If, and it's a big if, he can find the form he had for Arsenal when he was at his best then fine, not a bad signing. I'm not actually sure how I feel about it really

I think so Steven. For £10mill, I'm not going to argue.

A couple of years ago I'd put my neck on the line and say he was one of the very best in the league. Bit long in the tooth now. But still a commanding cb.
Edit: TV is an odd one. Why he dropped so badly in form only god knows. But maybe a chance of club will bring back his best.

id prefer to keep Vermaelen for now as we have enough to do as it is... assuming we were to sign Aurier, we'd be back to last season in terms of 2 RBs, 2 LBs (+ Verm) and 3 CBs with Aurier capable of covering.

If we sell Verm then we only have 2 proper CBs which is lunacy. However, the only time ive seen him play half decent in the past 2 seasons is at LB... otherwise hes just a liability and yes, injuries and inconsistent runs in the team are partly to blame but hes had chances and hasn't taken them :\ Rather sell Monreal if needs be and keep Verm for LB but we need to decide as he only has 1 yr left. Id have no qualms about selling him to Utd for £10m though

To be honest, as a free agent/backup player, there are a lot worse out there. Age hasn't slowed him down, because he never was quick

Even if Vermaelen wants to move and agrees a nice little deal with Van Gaal, that means nothing. Arsenal still have to agree to sell him and with already losing Sagna do you really think they're going to get rid of another defender? Gives them a real uphill task for getting enough players in for next season. £10mil is a fair deal and obviously better than getting nothing for him next year, but I'd want to know we've got a replacement first.
