I can see mounting it being a bit of an arseache without proper mounting/screw holes and anyone doing cases for them will be asking for a decent penny.

Ash - Kind of agree but cost was the limiting factor.

Yah, it's designed for electronics development and programming. You need access to all the pins on it and the purpose of it was to be as inexpensive as possible, so a £2 case would make it cost £2 too much.

Yup, or you could use an iPhone charger with a different cable. I'm sure there are all sorts of things which have USB chargers too.

Missed that, I've got a 5v USB plug at home. iPhone ones are the same voltage but not sure about current.
These look ok quality and not bad price http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nokia-CA-101-Micro-Data-Cable/dp/B000U6QPFI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1325531420&sr=8-2

iPhone chargers are rated at 1A, I'd hazard a guess that all USB chargers will be rated the same. Either way, it will probably run on 500mA as that's the specification for USB 2.0 and I think it's meant to be able to run just plugged into your PC's USB port.

Have you been hounded about this yet?
Any inside info about release dates yet?
Also, any chance of a CS group buy when it is released? - Not for a discount, but more to get them before they sell out

Can you let us know in here if you hear any more news about them?

XBMC running on the PI - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NR57ELY28s

Looks extremely impressive, even more so that it apparently decodes other codecs like XVid (not much information has been released regarding this though). Granted transitions look like they could be a little smoother (although i suspect XBMC isn't fully optimised for the PI) and it'd be interesting to see how it handles streaming media like Icefilms/Netflix but for £20 quid for a 1080p media player, you can't really complain

The Cotton Candy also looks like a brilliant device (http://www.fxitech.com/products/) with it having a 1.2GHz dual-core Arm, 1GB ram etc But it's likely to sell for £100-150

Edit - Just need to get CEC working on the device

The XBMC guys say that it really needs 256MB of RAM to run and this thing only has 128MB so its going to really be running on the limit i think.

Its one of those. I would spend another 10$ and go for 512MB ram version

CEC as in this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#CEC

Saw that XBMC video the other day, their forums bought up an interesting topic with regards to audio and video decoding;

http://www.raspberrypi.org/forum/general-discussion/xbmc-running-on-raspberry-pi/page-3

quote: Please remember that even if the SoC can support a particular format, licencing costs may mean that it won't be provided. You would be stunned how much Dolby et al charge to use their, really quite primitive, formats. For example, AAC, a fairly simple audio format, costs MORE to licence than H264, a very sophisticated video format.

I'll try and find out more about what will and won't be supported.

EDIT: Pass-through will be supported though so that probably isn't as much as a problem as some user(s) were making out.

There will be an optimized version for the Pi, just as there is for ATV
