They get a glowing report from me. A year of street racing abuse & a couple of trackdays - no problems and handled on rails!

Thing is Adam, they are cheap coilovers, but they do what they need to do & they do it very well IMO

Yeah probs right tbh, AP's for mine were £600, I went with BC's purely because they offered extra adjustment

Could just be a dodgy batch of metal or assembly, does happen.

they’re cheap cos they are fixed rate, hence cheaper to make, just because they are made in the fk factory doesn’t guarantee anything tbh, does sound like the damper has been bottoming out though, or there wouldn’t be any loadings large enough to snap a piston
the fact that the snapped at all rather than bent is a bit of a worry though, possibly a material issue in a batch or whatever, definitely get them back to AP though for investigation

From the internet

quote:
AP & KW Are the same company. the AP's are well made and adjustment is easy. I have used a nice heavy wax on them for protection, as i have never had coilover's before i was pleased with how easy they are to adjust... Slepy when mine are removed feel free to make me an offer..

well the good this is that at least they went at slow speed not in a situation when it could have been very bad news!

on another note, ap are the same company as kw, ap being a cheaper option!

so where do Weitec come in to things now, cos they also are made by kw and advertise as being made by kw also but being a cheaper coilover!

so ap, Weitec, and kw are all the same company!

KW - ok
Weitec - middle?
AP - pish?

Is that the order?

Cheap suspension is normally cheap for a reason...... cheaper materials for example, less precise engineering/tolerances another

Either way - the AP's still shouldnt have snapped both pistons (if they were fitted correctly)

Did they have bump stops?

ap are cheaper because they dont have as much control as the others eg rebound adjustment

build quality wise they are no worse in fact i wouldnt be surprised is a lot of the components are the same!

you can still build things well with inferior materials

hehehe

How much were both your susp kits? £400 or so??

You cant expect excellent, award winning, long lasting, top of the line suspension in that price range.

PS - I'm just winding you up now! Steve - you have shite suspension!

How much miles are on the coilovers? Even the cheapest of the cheap shouldn't really give way in such a manner on both sides

Kw own weitec, they are made in different factories, I never heard anything about ap apart from everyone on cs loves them.

I tend to take advice from corsa owners carefully, as slot most of it is guess work

not sure how anyone can defend them as being good when clearly they use such cheap materials and material treatment that the damper rods were brittle enough to snap tbh, installed wrongly or not that should not happen, and if they came with bumpstops or even if the factory ones were refitted then there is no way there should be enough compressive loads on the damper tube to give enough laterals for it to have the movement needed to snap
