Might be difficult to MOT too if the v5 says its 1.4 and the tester finds a 2.0 under the bonnet

My advice regarding the car would be to insure it properly so that when you crash you're suitably covered. Insurance will not pay you out if you bend it and there's a larger, more powerful engine in the car. I'm quite surprised you thought otherwise.

Regarding the loan and the house, you would probably be better with a mortgage of a higher percentage of the value of the house rather than using personal unsecured finance to cover a deposit.

Would i be right in thinking that some NCB is required to insure an XE corsa?

It will be a lot, that's if you can find anywhere to insure you.

Get a c12nz for a year, get a NCB THEN you may be able to consider a C20XE, even then it won't be cheap.

If its 650 on someone elses policy, it'll be 1500 on your own, on a standard car.

Keep going upwards if you modify it.

You could leave it in your mums name, but do you not think that will look a bit funny. You are a named driver, and its her who is doing the mods?

so if you couldn't afford the insurance last year it's not a great idea now .. you'll have to fork out for the engine conversion and thousands in insurance ... best aim a little lower to be honest

Mothers don't do engine swaps!

They'll know its your car not hers and refuse to pay. They're not stupid.
