A4 is quite appealing, but they can look pretty bland...

In a bit of a dilema.... dont want to spend much, but dont want a bucket

A4 TDi
Xantia TD (very cheap, but mining)
Vectra TD

or an old cav TD..... but i hate cavs

you shouldnt really tow a car trailer with a car unless its very heavy. something like a pajero or an early isuzu trooper would be best IMO.
Make sure that the total laden weight of the trailer is no more than around 75% of the weight of the tow car.

Also if you get an auto (which most pajeros are) get an aditional oil cooler fitted so it doesn't kill the gearbox
