Missus has dropped her iphone onto the fire place and smashed the screen, she pays £15 a month for insurance, but took it into them today and they want £60 excess aswell!
Anyone know if there is a cheaper solution?

Cheers

Buy a screen from ebay and fit it?

No idea how much they are sorry but it was about £10 for a 3GS one

It's about £30 for a screen on ebay but quality will be nowhere near the original.

Fairly easy to change as well, just loads of tiny screws.

I'd be changing insurance companies also, £15 a month then £60 excess is a bit excessive.

£60 excess on a phone is absolutely bonkers the £15's you've been paying a month is enough to have no ecxess imo.

Yeah tell me about it. My understanding was that if it was lost or stolen then you had to pay £60 excess, but went over today n have to pay it for broken screen aswell

Most repair places down here charge from £80 -120 to replace a 4/4S Screen.

We charge £60.00 and is done within the hour.

my girlfriend had her screen replaced cost about £50 and the screen quality is no where near as good as the orignal one, best paying the extra and get it fixed though the insurance it should be a decent one not a cheap one off the internet

Buy two super cheap ones on ebay, use one till end of contract and then put another new one on when you sell. Tbh though the screens i bought to replace my 3gs screen wasnt bad at all and was about 7 quid delivered.
If you buy a screen to do it yourself make sure it comes with the mid frame attached, makes it alot easier.

People comparing 3G/3GS screen installation and prices have never replaced a 4/4S screen.

The retina LCD comes bonded to the glass, you have to buy both. Cheapest are about £22 and quality is rubbish no matter what you pay as you'll struggle to find a genuine one. I'd pay to have apple do it if you want it done properly.

Indeed 4/4S screens are nothing like the 3 screens.

We get genuine ones on trade for approx £45 but most people would prefer us to fit the cheaper screen to keep costs down.

Ebay screens are TAT though, proper waste of time. The touchscreen is never as responsive as a genuine item. Just like comparing aftermarket parts and genuine parts for your car I guess. The cheaper one will 'work' but won't quite be the same

After watching a video on youtube on how to replace the screen on a 4s i can only retract what i said. It looks as painful as when i changed the back case on my 3gs and that was a pain. Cant understand why apple made it so easy to change on the 3gs and then so hard on the 4s. I mean if you drop your iphone (without a case) there is a good chance the screen is broke. paying for the excess doesnt seem so bad now.

My insurance excess is £100 Through my bank account though, so can see why the cunts charge so much.
