DL speed is pro, but only after I had them send me a new modem, I was still on the original one when it was a 2MB line (or whatever), they upgraded it to 20MB and the speeds were no better, rung up to complain and they sent me a new modem and speeds multiplied tenfold! 
So if anyone is on the XL broadband package from Virgin and have slow speeds - contact them and ask for a updated modem etc

You do know that the test is not all the accurate....  
 
Web-based speed tests measure only how fast data is able to travel from one part of the internet to another, which is subject to delays.  
 
Also other factors that affect results are things like the number of people using the test, and the processing power of your computer. 
 
An accurate test would be to use hardware that directly connects to a modem.

Yes, but speedtest.net (at least the London server) is very fast, and gives quite an accurate reading of real world line speed. Another way of doing it is to get a bandwidth monitor and download some large files from various places so your bandwidth is running at max.
