 Pissing me off, its making me look a fool when Im playing online 
My Xbox is connected to the router by an ethernet cable so it isnt a wireless problem
our house has the big computer, with a router plugged in and then 2 laptops off that, only one at a time is on though, my Xbox is plugged into port number 4 on the router
its only gone shit the past 2 weeks of so, also does time of day affect internet speed, im usually on between 9pm and 2am
where can I get a speed test on my connection?
Please help

disconnect everything else from the router when you play and see if it still happens, if the router is wireless turn the wireless service off to as someone next door (hi brett  ) may be using it and sucking up your bandwidth!!

Mine lags from time to time. Playing COD4 winds me up. I'd be blatantly shooting somebody and nothing would happen. I played it round my mates, and I was shit hot! It was a farce!

sure its not the person hosting the match thats making you lag, never played it but im guessing there are no dedicated microsoft servers for the game, so it usually comes down to the person hosting the matches upload speed and ping creating the lag.
least thats why people lag on team fortress 2 as theres only player hosted servers, if it lags change to another game.

To be fair Xbox Live has not been right since it was offline for 24 hours
Ive heard loads of people saying its been playing up and witnessed/experienced lagging and disconnection quite regularly

 i thought with optical you get a steady connection, so virgin must be extremly capping your connection
