Is the expansion tank up to the "cold" or "Kalt" mark when the engine is cold ? If not then top up. Should have antifreeze in all year round to stop corrosion as well as prevent freezing in the winter. Very high levels of antifreeze (like if you fill the system with neat stuff instead of diluting it) will make cooling less efficient but whether it would cause this I would doubt. If the coolant level in the tank is ok then check:

Thermostat (may not be opening fully) - may notice the engine getting very hot but not the rad top hose.

Partly blocked/restricted radiator

Inefficient water pump or slipping drive belt

Hope this will help.

also its not advisable to just stick in antifreeze - ur better to drain the system; flush it out and then use new antifreeze with water as suggested in the correct parts etc on the bottle - try not to mix one type of antifreeze with another
