Anyone know why a hand held code reader that is EOBD and OBDII compliant won't communicate with the Ecu? Tried 2 different readers. Garage had to use a different diagnostics to read codes. Not sure what they used. Will the paper clip test work as the pedal on doesn't? Car is First registered in 2000

I've had this problem with a 99 1l

Tried two different systems both costing in excess of ten grand apparently and neither could read it.
An old one in a friend of my dads garage
And my own obd2 with opcom

None of them read it..

Apparently in the past there was an egr problem (car been in the family best part of ten years) and an rac guy that was outside my uncles unit got talking and threw his diagnostics on.. Apparently he plugged it in somewhere under the bonnet?! But the only connector under there is for a fan test.

If you ever find out what software they used I would love to know!

Hmmm, well the 16 pin plug is in the fuse box in the car, but reader says can't communicate. Got mechanic coming tomorrow with what he used before so i'll find out what he uses

Yeah I had the same thing. The more expensive of the readers mentioned even matched the vin but the car still had none of it haha.
If you find out would be great to know. It's frustrating haha

Right, mechanic had a snap on reader and it came back with 02 sensor voltage low , however the reader wouldn't do a live test so he'll need to hook it up to yet another machine

Is it the 1.2 16v? From memory both those and the 1.0 12v could not be paper clip tested. There is no pedal test for the B.
