the way i see it, if i'm putting a wood burner in anyway and running it to heat the living room, why not take advantage of the extra heat its kicking out?

mine (nor Dad's two) isn't connected to the central heating and in all honesty, when they're burning efficiently, the heating never comes on anyway as one unit is enough to heat the entire house. Even though the chimney is well insulated, it heats up and emits heat well after the fire has burned out

I know in scotland the sbsa states its no required in, most instances.

not sure if you need Building warrant (tbh not 100% what that means) However, it does have to be installed in accordance with Building Regulations Part J - Combustion Appliances and Fuel Storage Systems which gives various regs including hearth thinckness and dimensions to combustible materials etc

I think it was more of an issue when the HIPs were mandatory but not so much now.

No, but if someone complains about the smell then you will have environmental agency on to you and then building control can easily be enformed.
