Just got a set of 312mm Audi TT calipers with Pagid pads, EBC USR discs and HEL braided lines.

Only ever run standard spec brake fluid in my cars, whats a good fluid that you would reccomend for when I come to fit the brakes and change my fluid at the same time?

DOT 5.1 is the best for road use.

Not really, its all the same stuff...prob just stay with known people like Motul, Casterol, Carlube etc

Surely for road use DOT 4 is better as it's less hygroscopic?

Yes, the boiling point in DOT 5.1 is higher, but it takes on water a lot quicker...

The car likely isnt going to see a track, so you reckon just DOT4 will be ok?
Anyone used halfords brake fluid before? Would get it at trade price

I use Halfords DOT4 in everything at home, never had an issue.

dont waste your money on designer brake fluids for a road car.

We use motorfactor dot5.1 in both track cars and have done for a number of years. If you are worried about it absorbing moisture - use a sealed cap!!! or use dot5.0 silcone based

Can't use silicon based fluid in most cars though as it eats the seals, also, it's actually worse unless you're regularly changing it, as it's hygrophobic, so you get water and brake fluid separating in the system, which is a recipe for disaster.

As for using a sealed cap, most VAG cars use a sealed cap, but still require a change every 40k (according to the manufacturer's figues) if not sooner.

hmmm......

i thought the advantage of 5 was that it was less prone to water absorbtion.

I'd change brake fliud yearly - for the sake of £5
