Hey guys...

My car looks to be dying..

Its a 1.4 8v at the moment.

Its a 1997 'P and is a 5 door.

Basically, is an X16XE a straight swap?

What wiring is needed etc?

If its dying, then i might aswell change it for something better.

Also, will my Driveshafts fit if i buy an engine and box?
Will my Exhaust system / Cat bolt straight on?
Obviously my Rad and so on would be fine.
Are all mounts the same because its still small block?

Cheers

well the xe is a 16valve engine and seeing as you have an 8valve, there will be a difference, I should think the main chassis difference will be the (when you open your bonnet and stand that way), the left mount, closest to you, will be different, if I recall, you need to unbolt the part you currently have.

You will also need the wiring loom from an x16xe engine, the key chip, ECU and transponder

I'm not sure about shafts or exhaust, I know that the 1.4 16v exhaust fits the 1.6 16v. Rad would be fine with it.
Battery etc would be fine also obviously.
You MIGHT even need a gearbox suitable for a 16v 1.6 engine

You need:
-x16xe block
-POSSIBLE gearbox (ask others on here)
-ECU, key chip, transponder
-engine loom
-remove front left hand mount (extra bit for 8v engines).

If you do get stuck, take pictures and put a project log on here, most people are willing to help and are very good at it. I remember a thread here not long ago about someone doing the conversion from a 1.4 16v and people helping him almost every step to get it running

Awesome, Cheers bud

Basically, I'd be looking to buy a full kit anyway..

Starting with the bare minimum to me..

Engine, Box, ECU, Loom and Transponder (Do i need just the chip? or the pickup ring too?)

The mount i could get on here easily enough i would like to think anyway..

I appreciate that i'd need to mod my Header tank too, as there's an extra pipe - Or just get a 16v one..

I was just worried that i'd buy a setup, and find that the wiring in the car is as much of a pig as my redtop conversion was..

Cheers

I just done this, from a 5 door p reg which was an 1.4 8v too!

As said you need to swap the left mounts over, and looms and chips

Really, so literally its almost plug in and go then?

Obv i'd buy an engine complete with ancillaries ready to drop in...

So exhaust fits fine?

Get Transponder and key Chip
Header Tank
Left hand Mount

and Job done?

Driveshafts fit too?

I was doing this with other people, pretty sure we used the x16xe driveshafts, and I'm 90% sure the exhaust fit, but i would wait for confirmation on that

You need the key chip, transponder and ECU as a set else they won't work together and your car won't start due to immobiliser

Also I wouldn't say it's a simple case of drop the shit in and it works. You'll find you get everything done, turn the key and it won't start probably because you forgot to plug some loom in. You'll be pondering what loom plugs in where etc. swapping the engine and shafts etc should be fairly reasonable though.

Cheers guys - this might still be happening yet!
