Was quoted around 270/290 bhp but it's never been on the rollers and it's not likely to be on the rollers till I've fitted a garrett

I think this is a once off though, never heard problems with them before.
F23? Solid as a rock
That's what I thought, just unlucky I guess.
Heard of them having diff problems before

I asked about 12 people what should I get Astra GSi Turbo or a Civic Type R and everyone bar 1 said Civic Type R
I think Rob B had an Astra GSI Turbo Stage 3 then went to a Civic Type R - he said he never looked back

its still depends what you want the car for, i still think gsi is better for the road ctr better for a track there is a difference...
plus gsi looks so much better than ctr im sorry but it does
i have driven a ctr on numerous accasions and i hate it, good handling but i just hate the rest, and dont really like the engine.... this dont mean i think gsi engine rocks just means i think ctr engine aint right for me.
when i bought my gsi i bought it because i wanted a nice car for commuting/shopping/trips abroad with the mrs and with some power for when i wanted to have a play in south of france....... round the twisty's
ctr got my nerves when i drove my friends to blackpool.
s214 all 12 people have to have owned both cars back to back to give a true opinion. i also own a suzuki bandit 1200s bike and in the biking world its dogs slow, but trust me 0-60 in 3 secs and standing quater 11 secs at 120mph is slow then ..............................................

Yea agreed an Astra GSI T in arden blue looks a lot better than a civic type r
I chose the civic because it's different, bigger, better and faster than my corsa
A Civic Type R would also be much more reliable than an Astra!
The Civic is more of a drivers car - it's a popular hot hatch for a reason
The Astra is more of a lazy persons car, as many have said it's uninvolving with the drive!
But anyway I'm off to VTEC cloud 9

you mean your off to loads of extra noise an no extra power cloud 9
i do agree though i dont like them, though im sure they are a great car reliability comes down individuals i had less problems in 30k miles with my gsi than me mates had with his ctr
me= afm
ctr owner= starter motor went, electric window jammed open, rocker cover gasket leaked quite badly i think etc etc
but im sure there will be loads of people where the experiance has been reversed so i think it comes down to individuals and how there looed after etc etc etc
and i would say there popular due to clever marketing, they have somehow bin able to fool the young generation into thinking they are the quickest thing on 4 wheels, hence where all the VTEC jokes came from and it is true most owners big there ctr up so much its unreal..
my mate has only came around to admitting his mrs c2 vts is really just as good apart from the interior

My Astra is reliable! I've run over 300bhp 380ft/lbs for over 2 years now, not had a single problem other than a stone hitting the rad through the grill (but that can happen on any car)
I don't think it is a boring drive either, i get loads of response from the car, I can predict how its gonna handle and drive, when the back ends gonna come round and it was more than capble at the ring
Even entering a sprint soon in it, and bought an SRi T for a daily driver!

Yup was me. Still not looking back...
Astra felt as responsive as strumping a girl under the influence of rohypnol. Don't get me wrong it was bloody quick and had nice creature comforts, just lacked any "feel" imo.

could be a number of reasons for this . . .
he goes up alot of hills. . . the GSI T is always in front?
IF the GSI T is ever behind he doesn't want to look back in the rear view mirror just incase he gets love juice all in his trousers?
only he knows

In 2 Months time I will be buying a Gsi Turbo.
Lucky for me 3 of my mates have -
.Clio 182(full exhaust, coilovers, carbon parts)
.Ibiza Cupra R (Tuned to 276bhp, Larger Turbo, FMIC and much more)
.Type R( Different induction set up and remapped)
I narrowed it down to these 3 and the Gsi.
Firstly I ruled out the Clio, just wasn't my thing tbh and wanted something bigger, and just wasn't a fan of french cars overall personally.
Then the hardest 2 being the Cupra and Typre R.
Fair point that the Cupra was not standard but was generally really impressed at how well it pulled and handled.
But was put off down to how many problems hes had with the car since buying it, and tbh I know sod all about VAG cars and engines and tbh i think they do look nice but I prefer the looks of the Type R and Gsi.
The Type R really did surprise me, pulled soo well and sounded immense when hitting V-tec, and also handled really well.
Only things that put me off is the fact of having to thrash it to enjoy it, and i want something with alot more easier tuning potential and still prefer the look of the Gsi T to the Type R.
So thats why I have gone for the Gsi T, not the best but not the worst car on petrol, then again i drive just under 2 miles to work so really not worried about Petrol consumption.
Having a Turbocharged engine means easy tuning potential so to speak, and just generally love the look of them.
I know the Type R is more of a drivers car but I think I would prefer a car which could comfortably do the motor miles if i need it too and be more refined.

like you said type r is a great car but people seem to compare ctr and gsi as if its like comparing top spec corsa sport vs entry model ford ka
gsi and type r on a closed road would still be close in terms of performance/handling etc etc
look at top gear when the new type r was raced against the old type r with new type r having rear beam suspension setup similar to astra gsi, clarkson said YES old type driver was prob having more fun but lets face it there was nothing in it was there.......
and plus i like a challenge
