If you want to do a true comparison of how they perform do a straight disc copy between the two discs.

Then you can boot up both images in exactly the same state and compare boot up times.

Much more reliable then doing a reinstall and remembering all the stuff/settings you have changed

Yeah I know its far from perfect but it does give quite a real world speed comparison. Bootup time has now gone from 54 seconds to 31 with all the same programs reinstalled, so a fairly big difference.
Also, copying from my USB pen drive to C drive has gone from around 16MB/s to 35MB/s. I do it quite often too as I take it to uni and pretty much fill it (16GB) most days downloading HD films and tv eps etc, so I should save a fair bit of time
