I was, then gave it a couple of minutes rest and tried again, then it worked. 
 
That was about 15-20 mins ago.

Was doing it opn mine, had a look in Zone Alarm and it wasn't allowing the update manager access to the tinternet (no idea why, it used to), changed that, problem solved

Usually after an engine update you will have a couple of million people all trying to get an update. The server can't handle that many requests, hence the timeout. Just try over the next few hours and it will update fine.
