I was wondering what sort of fitness is required for a ‘retained firefighter’? In particular, what sort of fitness assessment they would likely to give, what they would ask you to do?
I know a full time fireman is very tough, but I wasn’t sure about the fitness of a part time fireman.
This is something I’ve considered a few times, but never really looked into it any further.

You have to live within 1 mile of the station or they won't process your application.

Yes. You have to be able to get to the station within 5 minutes.

thought it was three miles if you drive or a few hundred yards if on foot? also it can be from either your home or your place of work.

Yes, an electrical engineer.
I live less than 5 mins away from the firestation, and work less than 2 mins away.

ive been retained for 3 years now mate. fitness is exactly the same as fulltime. they do the same job so why would the fitness be any different?? the only difference is turn out times whereas fulltime will obviously be quicker but retained cover areas that arent as busy. still the same job tho

Probably won't like it. But having a full trainer fire officer on site can't be a bad thing for health & safety
