I'm looking at getting an AV Receiver and some speakers for my room.

Now i'd quite like to buy a set but i'm struggling to find a set that comes with an AV Receiver rather than a DVD player. Reason I don't want a DVD player is because I have a PS3 which is what I want to use as my DVD/Bluray source.

The only one I can find is this Denon - http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/content/products/details/index~modelcode~DEN-DHT1356XP~dept~hometheatre~subdept~HOMETHEATREPACKAGE~brand~denon.htm

But that Denon doesn't have HDMI which I would like for my PS3.

Am I being unrealistic to want a AV Receiver + Speakers that support HDMI for under £300?

Is there a specific reason you want it to accept hmdi apart from the one cable?

Just run optical to it, will be exactly the same.

Well won't I then lose the HD quality from my PS3?

No.

The system you are buying only has 5 speakers anyway, the optical takes more than enough information for you.

I've got my ps3 hooked up to my onkyo reciever with optical then the hdmi goes to my tv.

Edit to say that the ps3 can do 'hd' sound but you'll need a much fancier amp and more speakers, just because an amp has the hdmi in doesn't mean it does (i think) true dolby.

Ah I see, so you run the video via HDMI and the audio via optical - genius.

In that case I will probably for the Denon - shame it isn't black

There's my set up, an onkyo reciever and tannoy efx 5.1 speakers.

Cost about 600 at the time, should be able to get it all cheaper now, black and probably a bit overkill for my room tbh.

Its a similar offering to the denon though. Obviously not the best out there but its not going to be for the price.

He wants an all in one kit like the denon he linked, if he didn't there are countless options.

I'm not saying it's a bad option, just not what he's originally posted looking for.

That yamaha does come as a one box package just like the denon, even though you can buy them separately, as john said. Depends what you want from the system, the tannoy speakers John has got would be good, you can get a 6.1 system for £116 from here Tannoy EFX 6.1 but they are silver not black.

I only really wanted a package for simplicity. Not overly bothered TBH.

Might just go for the Denon because it's easy.

James look into the Onkyo HTX22D

Ypu can bag it for around 260-270 now just for bartering

http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=ONKY-HTX22HD

Also has two or 4 HDMI in's so one HDMI out to tv and then PS3/Xbox/whatever into the In. Less wires all round. Very well specced bit of kit

Onkyo HTX22HD - Then buy the additional speakers to make it 5.1

Digital Direct

Very good system for the cash, 2 hdmi inputs, 2 optical, 1 coax-digital, remote control etc..

You cant get DTS-HD or Dolby True HD with an optical or coax cable due to bandwidth restrictions, must be HDMI
PS3 will output LPCM (change in BD setup menu) which is what you'll need to get the best out of the PS3 using the HDMI to carry the audio

James what is it primarily for movies, Music or a bit of both? If you will play music through it regularly look at the Onkyo 606 however if its solely for movies the above looks bloody good for the money!!!

Been researching today and it seems this does "True HD" where that other system doesn't. Only thing that puts me off is that i've read all PS3 owners get a "buzzing" noise through this system.
