I would assume you can paint it just like any other item, just make sure you give it a good key

What sort of prep work would be required for something like this? Not sure what grit to use

just rub it with 800 gritt wet and dry till its rough then spray it satin or matt black

I painted my V-Grill which will be similar (very shiny surface) so I went over it with low grit, about 120 to get rid of the shiny surface, then 400 to get a smoother surface with a key, then prime, flat, paint, laquer etc

if you have primer use it, I wouldnt buy a can especially for it though really
