i noticed other day that the speedo and mileage counter on it had stopped working completely!!

even after i tried restarting the car, also did not get any fault lights!

ive read that it could be fuse no. 15 or 17
or the cable is nackered, about £30 from vauxhall

hello mate, had the same problem with my 1.2 16v, lost the speedo rev MFD everything. Was one 10 or 15amp fuse number 17 i think, if you look in your owners manual it has a break down of what all the fuses run.

hope that helps

mine is deffinately cable driven so i dont think its a fuse! i checked them and they all looked ok

engine bay is so tight i can bearly see were the cable is and were it goes into the gearbox!!

whats the chance it could be unplugged behind the dials though??

Chances of it coming unplugged are slim, if it's not fuses then you're cable has snapped.

cheers for the advice guys
but now the engine management light came on today after 20mins of driving!!

any ideas?? could it be just the speedo or somthing else to now?? i will do the paper clip test when i get a chance.

and just to verify, can i test to see if the speedo cable is actually broken by unplugging from the back of the dials and seeing if it spins while driving??

This all happened in mine when the speedo cable snapped, cause the ECU can't get a speed reading.

Yeah if you take the clocks out it should spin. If it doesn't then pull the end and if it's snapped you'll be able to pull it out, I found that out by accident!

the fault code is 24 VSS - vehicle speed sensor, phew

looks like its just the cable then, il check it tonight,

how much would a speedo cable cost from vauxhall?
and would i need to jack the car up to insert the cable under the gearbox?
as i cant see were it goes from engine bay at all!!

the cable just goes straight into the top of the gearbox. Dont bother going to vauxhall they'il just rob you blind. Just go down the scrappy n rag one out. Is the car cutting out when you dip the clutch or come to a stop?
