is it alright to just put them in a drill chuck and clean them with wire wool??!!

yes thats how I do them however do not go anywhere near the face that seats into the head as no amount of lapping will get them back again lol.

At work i stuck them on the lathe.. got a lil chisel and got rid of all the shit off them.. then used a bit of sandpaper..
were all sparkly

Personally I wouldnt use a drill, you can get attachments but I always do them by hand.

my dad sed that wen he did his on his old mini (in the old days) he had like a little plunger on a stick?is that right or is there a better way nowadays?

yep thats how I do it, the plunger falls off every 3 seconds anyway regardless of if your using a drill or not so it actually works out easier to just do it by hand.

to be honest I dont need to lap them back in, took the head off an all that its done is blow the head gasket between cylinders 2-3

ohh yeah and i did lap the vavles..
At work for 2 different types of paste.. one thinner one thicker.. to get them right..
im just an apprentiship so not really sure of all the names and shit.
your hands ache after a while! good job it was only a 8v. lol

corse + fine grinding paste...
its easier to lap them with a reversable air drill 
+ easier to clean on a wire wheel

go to machine mart and get the attatchment that plugs into teh end of a electric drill for lapping the valves, also i would only use a soft scotch bright and some oil to clean the valves as this wont score the surface of the valve and will be tough enough to clean all the coak off
