Just a quick Question.
If I put an airbag into my GSi will it automatically detect that it is okay and functioning or do I have to get a diagnostic and reprogrammed.
The old one has the light coming on saying there is a fault.

may i suggest you get it looked at professionally.
i'd rather pay £££and have th piece of mind than the worry it might not go off, or worse go off when its not needed

The airbag is triggered by the control box. Probably that rather than the bag tbh.

Okay maybe I should explain myself a little better: I have two GSi's one is a 1994 and one is a 1995, the 1994 has had the airbag fault light on since I bought it.
The 1995 has no problems at all, if I fit the airbag that has no problems into the car that does have the light on, will it detect that a functioning airbag has been fitted and turn of the fault light or will the light stay on regardless.

when the light came up on mine it was the control box even though the symptoms made it look like a connection in the wheel/airbag - i was told by my mechanic the part would cost £300 from vaux - got one from scrappy for £20 then garage reprogrammed it and installed it all up for me - jobs a goodun

thanks for that, appreciated,
I'll look into the control box and see if I can pick one up somewhere.

my garage said it might be the squib when mine went but they got an auto electrician in and it came up as the control box. Wouldn't touch it myself, bit dangerous to play with.
Anyone have any idea how much the airbag is to replace? my horn control has a gaping hole in it and its not getting any better lol
