u dont need to afaik. my creative soundcard just installs using the provided disc and it uses it straight away. not being funny but you have plugged your speaker jacks into the card and not the motherboard havent you?

On another note you need to uninstall your old drivers first, should be in Add/Remove as they may be conflicting. Come back and tell us what you have tried if it still isnt wokring

ok do this -

Take the new card out
Unplug the speakers from everything
Boot into Windows and uninstall everything related to creative soundcards
Restart and then turn off again
Put your card back in but dont plug the speakers in
Boot into Windows and go to Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager and see if it recognises it as being installed
If it does, put your install disc in and install the software
Turn off and plug speakers in and give it a go

If it doesnt find the card a couple of steps up then either the PCI card slot is fooked or the card is fooked....

Send some feedback

What do you mean you dont want to uninstall your old card, its onboard you can just disable it in the bios.

If your card isnt working after installing it, you have used the cd and installed the drivers for it right? Right click on "My Computer" go to "Manage" go to "Device Manager" any audio devices got a yellow "!" next to them?

Also if you still have the onboard enabled have you tried plugging the speakers back into there even with your new card installed? If that works you need to go to "Control Panel" then "Sound & Audio Devices" then click on the "Audio Tab" and change sound device from onboard to your new card.

Sorted!

Dont install the card in the pci slot near the graphics card, use one further away.. Some graphics cards cause problems with the first PCI port when using creative soundcards,

Make sure the onboard is diabled in the bios.

Check to see if your new soundcard requires additional power supply input.

Do what drax said and move it to a different PCI slot, it may also be that you have some fluf or dust in the PCI slot if its not being detected.

Failing that it sound slike it maybe time to send it back for a repalcement\refund. DO you have another card you can try to see if its detected?
