Right, i want to build a new media centre because the machine i use at the moment is too loud. Every time the smallest bit of processing is done, the fan kicks in and is VERY loud.
Its a computer i've brought home from work and will be going back.
I want to build the new one myself but dont have much of an idea what hardware to buy. I've seen a few nice case's on eBuyer which i like.
Can anyone recomment any good boards/chips and RAM etc?
I'd like to keep it at a fairly low budget if possible.
I think i'll be able to get away with onboard everything (sound graphics etc) because it isnt going to be used for any heavy gaming at all.

have you thought of changing the cooling inside the computer
my amd x2 was very quiet until i overclocked it
now got a water cooling kit for cpu, m/board, graphics card
then bought a silent psu
can hardly hear it now, even when playing games

I had the case off it earlier to make sure there was nothing in there which would cause this.
Its a Thermaltake cooling system in a BTX case.
Doesnt mean a great deal to me to be honest.

If you just want to change the cooling then get a speed adjustable fan and keep it on the loest setting. Should easily give enough cooling to handle the workload in a media centre, and if you get a decent one it will be virtually silent too.

Whcih fan is causing the noise, a case fan or the CPU fan?

Im guessing it will be the standard Intel or whoever's heatsink fan then?
If so find out what mobo it is and what CPU and post it up, that way can suggest a fan that will work with it.

Its strange because the chip is mounted at an angle on the board.
I'll sort some pics of it out when i get home, and also of the current cooling system. Its nothing i've come across before TBH
