When im driving along and get to 3000-4000 revs, i can hear my car making a "whistling" sound, as if its ready to change gear, any help, does yours do this?

hmmm i have a standard 1.4 8v* engine, and the induction kit, but i noticed it before i had the induction kit on,
*Not sure if its 8V i've never been able to find out

That is 8v.
My 12v also makes this high pitched noise. Fuck knows what it is. Heard other people say theirs does it and it's normal.

Split vacum pipe could cause a whistling noise
my mates 12volt had a dicky alternator and hat whistled at high rpm..

Doubt that is the problem with mine. No battery drain and stays charged, started every time etc.

Its probably the alternator/belt. Mines whistles every now and then when the cars been warmed up and its on a cold night at about 4-5000 rpm

Not as far as im aware mate. Mines only quite, but just does it on cold nights when im giving it some welly.

heard of crankshaft pully wheel rubing off the plastic casing covering the timing belt that sound like described.

i was told it was the alternator diodes, just a noise but nothign to worry about
