The one closest to the hub you mean? (get confused which one is which)

If yes, then you don't have to reomve the driveshaft

Driveshaft comes out so easily you may aswell.

how easy is 'so easily'?

I'd be doing it on my own on my drive with limited tools, do I need to undo the hub nut?

If so, I'm fucked and can't do it

you don't no but its much easier if you do!
its not really a nice on the drive job.

If you replace it dont get a genuine boot. You want a proper rubber boot not the plastic ones like the genuine ones!

Yes, you could do that, but i've never done it so cannot comment on how hard it is.

Why don't you hire the specific tool required?

Btw, if you pull the shaft out of the box Robin, you'll lose the gearbox oil.

Ma will not be pleased at the stinking gear oil all over her drive too.

1. undo lbj
2. cut old boot off
3. open up circlip and pull hub/strut with cv joint still attached away from d/s
4. slide new boot down shaft
5. refit cv
6. pack with grease and fit clips

Wheres the problem?

Maybe 2.

Tbf i have the tools to be able to get the hub nut off so its usually easier that way.
When i have done it that way it has usually been because i didnt have a socket to fit on some big van talbot express or something.

If you buy a cv boot kit it should come with grease and clips.
Circlip pliers would do but really you want snap ring pliers.

Yes i would do it at the same time as brakes get the caliper out the way then give you more room.

If you do do it you want to hold the shaft into the box as you pull the cv off. You dont want to spill the oil!
