hi guys,

Ive built a pc before, but it was some time ago now. I was wondering if someone could draw up a spec, list of parts and the best place to purchase them from?

Its going to be promarily a gaming computer, and must support a 27" lcd HD tv screen.
So...hard disc space does not need to be massive, but chipset/motherboard, ram and graphics must be awesome, yet good value. Any ideas people?

Ta,

Anton

I'd recommend signing up to overclockers.co.uk forums and posting in the hardware section, I got them to spec me a comp and are a very helpful bunch when you get stuck. Might not be cheapest buying from them though

That would be recommended, it might be limited by the budget though. Your going to struggle to get 'awesome' anything on a £500 budget. I had a quick look at prices and even with using the lowest end Core 2 Duo and a cheap motherboard and 2GB of ram adding a highish end graphic cards took it up to £500, before any case, PSU, hard drives or dvd drives were added. Its going to either have to have a mid range graphics card (that might not be all too bad with a low native res HDTV) or it will need a higher budget(£600-650) .

I played Battlefield2 quite a bit with 1GB, was playable but when I put another gig in there it was so much better. Quicker to load maps, faster drawing of textures etc..

Well, the hdtv has a res of 1366x768 16:9. Well, i mid range graphics car that would run the correct resolution would be good...and 2gb ram preferable. HD does not need to be massive, and cd drive need not be great. Case just need to be good enough to house it all.

RAM costs about £30 for a gig so you may aswell get two.

A 350gig HDD costs fuck all now so get one of them.

a DVD writer costs about £10 now so you can't go wrong...
