Anyone in the know?

Just got a PSP and its got version 2.0 on it (from Japan)

What is all this homebrew malarky? As far as I've gathered its just running games from other consoles?

Was on a PSP site this morning downloading demos, but they require the update to 2.71

When I asked the PSP to update it prompted me with 3.03

home brew allows you to play normal psp games without payin for em i used have my psp and i could download all the new games for free off torrents and all you need is a mem card and some software called dev hook however if you have upgraded ur psp above 2.8 it now means that you cannot downgrade it and use homebrew

i.e upgrade up to 2.71 and then i will show you how to downgrade. do not worry about losing functionally as it will take it back to 1.5 but emulate 2.71 and will work fine altho you will need to check your mother board.

rawwww upgrade to 2.71 then downgrade to 1.5 then upgrade to "dark alexs" 3.02 oe-b.

all the functionllity of the origion psp firmware 3.02 with the added bonus of being able to run all homebrew, run downloaded psp games straight from the memory card (no other software needed e.g devhook"

and imo the best bit is it lets you play origional playstation one games in full, all integrated into the firmware.

it seems confusing but it is very easy when you suss it out.

download the 2.71 firmware here

install that by putting it a folder called "UPDATE" in the PSP folder, then go into the game menu on the psp then down to memroy card games and click the 2.71 link.

once that has been installed you need to downgrade to 1.5 firware do this by using the easy installer program found here

now you should have a 1.5 firmware psp, now you just need to install "dark alex" custom firmware found here

job done you can now run downloaded games ect.

ps: before all of this check if you do not have an incorrect motherboard by doing this:

as you can tell im am very bored.

There is now a downgrader for the above cursed t82 motherboard. If your on version 1.5 at the moment, the best thing you can do is upgrade to dark alex's custom firmware 3.03oea. Gives you all functionality of 3.03 but can run homebrew like 1.5, can also play games games from the mem stick straight from the game menu without any arsing about. Also includes recovery mode incase you ever semi brick it. Ive done about 7 now and not had one problem yet.

Forgot to mention - with this ver you can play ps1 games, either official ones sony have released for the PSP, or rip your own images of PS1 games to play.
