I've got a X16XE engine and trying to source replacement parts is can be hard at times. My engine hasnt been running correctly since I had the head gasket replaced a couple of months ago. (I had caught it just in time before the blown gasket had done any more damage). I had most parts renewed at the same time too (i.e water pump, belt, spark plugs, leads, etc) and the head was skimmed.

I didnt replace the valves because a guy at the shop where I had my head skimmed looked at it and said it looks like I had caught it in time and wouldnt reckon there would be any damage to the stems so I thought it wasnt necessary.

When the gasket did go coolant did leak into the engine as there was a white residue in the oil and my coolant tank was empty. But there isnt now after replaceing the gasket.

I dont know whether I should swap it over for a different engine rather than redoing the head again because I'm not too sure what else it could be, all sensors are ok, belt is lined up correctly but it just wont run properley. Its not firing correctly, and there's signs of oil on plug 4.

When I say fire, its ok when I've driving the car but when the car is idleing it doesnt seem to idle smoothly and you can feel the car rattle a bit.

Another thing I thoughtI could do is take it to a engine tunist to see if its the ECU making it behave like this. But then the ECU is self learning. I've tried restting it a couple of times, yet it still behaves like this.

But I'm also wondering if a C16XE engine would go straight in as they're easier to find than a X16XE and that again would solve my problem?

Has anyone got any ideas.

x16xe are easier to find, but yes a c16xe will fit straight in, but get the loom and ecu
