on the bulb the centre pin is the + and the outer case is the -
is that correct?

std single filement bulb casing, i just need to know if the centre one on the casing is the live

Get the multimeter out.
Or if it doesn't work one way try it the other.

i was asking cos i havent tried with the multimeter, im in work and when i get home its raining or dark.

yes the middle is +.i know this because ive converted my rear lights to leds.are you doing all your rear lights or just the reverse?
you will have to post me pics of yours when there done
