lots of ways to do it really mate everyone will argue bout better ways to do it..
basically if its old paint you need to key the surface so with a medium grit paper just rough it up, its also possible to get a keying paper i believe.
Then your ready to prime, choose a primer suitable for the surface your spraying.. once dried sand back down with varying grits of paper till you get to 800 or 1200 depending how far you want to go.
Once down you can then apply the colour, depending on the type of paint ull need thinners / hardeners and laquers paint shop will be able to advise as well as how to mix.
once done repeat sanding down to fine grit using wet paper to avoid clogging the paper repeat spraying on any areas needed and keep sanding till the paint in perfectly smooth then laquer if needed other wait a few days / as long as possible before giving the car a good cut and polish..
Well there you go probably missed a few bits and theres no details.. tbh youll need to experiment to get the best results best way to learn really.. if youve got a few spare panels door or boot for example lying around there perfect to practice on!

make sure the area you are painting in is clean and dry and fairly warm so then paint hardens properly
