iv just wired up my jbl 4000 amp, it has 2 20amp fuses in it so i have put a 40amp fuse in the power cable is this right?

This is correct. Make sure you use the appropriate thickness cable also, 10AWG over 5 metres is fine but use 8AWG to be safe.
