Here's the pics:

The Tear

Other side for comparison

This has been here since I bought the car, just got a few questions really.

1) Is it a case of just getting a new centre bit for the steering wheel, or a whole new steering wheel? Also how does this work as it has an airbag etc.

2) Will it pass an MOT like this. It is nowhere near the soft crease where the airbag comes out so I don't think it would affect it, but you know how picky some testing stations are.

3) How much is a new centre bit? How much is a new steering wheel?

Cheers

Oh and is this type of tear common (question may sound strange) or is it just something which the previous owner did by accident?!

yeah the airbags probably would, but its just a hard rubber cover which clips in place over the airbag.

all it says in haynes (well my omega manual anyways) is to prise it from the steering wheel & disconnect the horn wires.

bubblevaux, do I need a whole new airbag bit like this one?
eBay.co.uk

Also, how can I be sure that buying one like that will work? i.e. plug it all in and the airbag light stays on continously?! Anyone have any ideas how much original from Vauxhall would be?

yes that will fit. held in by 2 t40 or t45 pins behind airbag. do it with ignition OFF and ul store no airbag trouble codes so u wont need a tech2 to clear codes

It is just annoying when I keep catching my coat sleeve on it.

Would this make a difference to the performance of the airbag? i.e. it coming out of that hole and not into my face? Or would it fail the MOT?

as for failing mot i wouldnt fail it until the tear is worse-it wont yet affect the functionality of the bag.

Yea it's because most people hold the steering wheel with thier right hand and rest the other hand on the gearstick or similar. Mines worn a lot, but not torn yet...
