That golf I bought last week was a non runner, thinking to myself it would be an easy fix. Like fuck it is, 2 days later im starting to get a little annoyed!!

Car - Golf GTi 8v (Digifant) 1991

So far ive replaced:

Plugs
leads
dizzy cap
rotor arm
battery

Additionally I have swapped with a mates GTi :

Coil
Maf
Ignition sensor
ECU
Cold start sensor (notorious for golf starting probs)

Also:

Checked fuel is getting to injectors & pump is working
Checked static timing
Checked spark from plugs
Checked continuity from injector rail
Checked all vacuum pipes are intact & connected
Checked all earth straps are connected & clean

As you see, ive checked pretty much everything, I dont get what could be wrong, theres a spark, fuel but no combustion

Any help appreciated

cranked it over by hand?

sure the spraks strong enough?

whats the plugs like?

Yip cranked it over by hand to check timing.

Sparks ok, gave myself a bit of a zap holding one against the block

Plugs are brand new quantam leads.

immobilisor been fitted??

if you got fuel timing and spark its gotta be compression.......

what were old plugs like colour wise?

No immobilisor

Havnt had it compression tested yet but I would have thought if it was down on compression it would still start

Old plugs were perfect...ive kept them for spares.

The car itself is very very good condition, last owner was an older guy & really looked after it/never mistreated it. Its got FSH on 143k & the head was rebuilt 20k miles ago!!

if you have a strong enough spark and fuel it can only be compression/timing.

no ecu light??

is it turning over at all?

Maf's been swapped

Theres alot of vapour when I remove a plug

Ive been told to look at the map sensor next

Wont get a chance until Friday now though
