2 cables going directly from fan connector plug with a switch in the middle ?

as long as the wiring is all neat.

you shouldnt need a switch though, it shouldnt overheat.

yea mate i did same thing, got a wire i just fuse together under mi steerin wheel def a gd temp solution, car runs under 90 constant now = gdgd. i used thick wire too which is prob a gd idea

I'd be more tempted to get to the cause of the problem, in the mean time out a bridge piece in the plug so the fan is constantly on - saves putting a hole in your dash for a switch which hopefully won't be there long.
Normally when the fan doesn't cut in it;s the switch that is internally fucked, that'd be the first thing I was to change (the one that screws into the rad)

yes, what jules said.

you can run 2 wires directly from the switch wire but I would always run a relay (as I found out recently when my wiring burnt)
