ok, i have a 1.6 16v sport, brother has the same car, his little red light in his hazard swith blinks when he locks the car up, and i am pretty sure mine is meant to do the same... BUT...it doesnt. However, if i push and hold that little button in the roof (in the middle of the interior lights).... it sets the light off flashing for about 20 flashes, then it stops and nothing else happens.
just wondering what it means, as in is it a code to tell me whats wrong or something??

cheers for any help

If you hold the button and then lock the car it disables the inside sensor for the alarm. Meant for when you leave dogs or kids in there.

If you turn the key all the way to a 90 degree, it enables the deadlocks and alarm. The light will flash until it's opened. If you just flick it, it only locks, no alarm, no deadlocks, no flash.

I'm sure that's right, i read it in the manual ages ago.

sound like the standardalarm is knackered, pretty common, best bet is fitting or get fitted a toad alarm, if your stuck or want it cheap, i can fit for a good price, just cant sign the certs yet for that cat 1, only the installation.
