in a few weeks im leaving the country to study in america but im planning on keeping my car as theres no real point selling it. I therefore guess theres a few things i should do to help prepare it for being stood still for a while?
also its de locked at the moment so im going to keep a way to open it all if the battery dies. any ideas for this?
the car will be at my parents during this time so they could turn it over everynow and then if nessesary.
i no this isnt the best written post ever, in a bit of a rush! but any help will be greatly appreciated

You might want to over inflate the tyres a bit, or better still have the car raise as not to get flat spots. This probably isn't possible for you to do though!

Over inflate the tyres or they will wear on the parts where they have been sitting. Just general things really, as Cybermonkey said, cover it with something.

you could disconnect it, take it out, then extend the two wires to a point under the car somewhere.
then when you come back, charge battery, clip on wires then unlock it
maybe?

3CM has the best idea, should really take battery off as it will just get drained. Defo make sure the handbrake is off as that will seize and be a bugger to get off. Get your parents to put the windows down now and again to let some air it so it doesnt go mouldy inside.
