if you get a new cd player fitted will the steering wheel controls still work and will the display on the dash still work??? how much would it cost to make it work if not?

Depends on your car and head unit. A company called Connect2 make adapters that retail at around 30-40 quid that do both display and steering wheel controls. You can get these kits at Halfords or some other car retailer.
