On a 1,2 8v does it need to be there i want to take my manifold cover of.
Can i use the pipe tht connets to it as a cool air fead for my airbox, or is tht a bad idea as it desiged to keep the manifold cool????

Its a 'hot air tube' and does the opposite of what your thinkin. It deleivers warm air to the airbox. And if your thinkin thats stupid/ pointless/ and useless, then you're right. Plug the hole in the exhaust mani cover and use it as a cool air feed if you wish.
