posting for a friend.
her car (corsa C 51 reg 1.2) has started to judder when shes driving it like its loosing power, she says sometimes it wont start in the mornings and takes a few attempts to get going. the engine management light has been coming on on the dash and sometimes the rev counter doesnt work.
checked the oil last night and had next to nothing in so filled it up and there was next to no coolant either so filled that up.
she said this morning theres a spanner light on the dash lit up.
does anyone have any ideas what could be up?

Sounds like the head gasket.

if the head had gone surely it would be drinking water like no-ones business and wouldnt be driveable?

vauxhall garage or a gd quality garage will be able to diagnose the probs for ya straight away, n then u might be able to fix it if ur good with cars n its a simple task?

You said there was no coolant and no oil? There for it must be going somewhere?
Coinsodence that its leaking both oil and water so it could be burnign it, so it could be the head gasket.
Yer it would still be drivable but i wouldnt want to drive without oil and coolant

well topped it up with both last night and its fine this morning same levels.
the head would cause the temp gauge to go off the scale though wouldnt it?

dont think it may be bad as a head gasket, if its bad starting on a 1.2 16v (z12xe) it may be the EGR valve or poss the crank sensor sometimes goes. bad running problems sometimes are mass air flow meter or one of the o2 sensors on the exhaust.
