Hi
I'm driving '95 X16XE with 80k miles, but it uses about 2 liter of oil per 1000 miles. I went to the local mechanic and he chekced compression of cylinders, it was around 11bar on all four, so i assume that bottom end is ok. I get little smoke from exhaust only when i turnt it up cold when it's heat up there's none smoke. Also i can hear a tappets on the left side of engine head, when car is heated up, when it's cold i can hear all of tappets for about a minute or two. Should i try with engine flush or something? What's the cost of new tappets?
Greets!

Same problem mate but there are solutions.
My tappets make a little noise but will be fixed when weather warms up, ive been quoted £10 per tappet for new ones.
There are special products available to help reduce smoke and oil consumption which can be added to exisiting oil (makes for a slightly denser oil)

So it's there some other way to clean the tappets? And what about oil consumption? Will the new piston ring's and valve stem seals be ok? And what must i do with bore when i change the piston rings? My mechanic told me that he just change the rings and leaves bore untouched.

bores need to be de-glazed. then engine needs to be run in for 500 miles miniumum.

Millers oils DO GLAZE BUST OIL, doin an oil change as normal and use this oil, use for no more than 1000 miles and drive as your running the engine in, should un-glaze the bores and stop that problem, they more or less guaranteed it would fix mine but i got a new tuned engine before i did that to mine

well, if the pistons are out for the rings its a small job to remove the glaze on the bores.

Tnx for all help you're givin to me.
Yesterday i heard from some local mechanic that some X16XE's can't be "cured" from oil consumption. Is this just a rumor or he's right? I don't wanna throw big ammount of money into my engine for nothing. Hope you're understand me.
Greets.
