i havent had a mutant amp but they look like cheap nasty gear, similar to splx. (feel free to correct me on this)
i personally pay the extra and buy a solid brand amplifier like kenwood or alpine. its more expensive but definately worth it as they will last longer and can take a bit of abuse when you really push them.

must say ive got a 12" mutant sub and a mutant amp in my boot, and tbh runs fine! The setup i have can take one helluva pounding and has never given up, and sounds great too. ok, they may not be made out of the most expensive/greatest materials, but for a low cost system they are good (and for £100 sounds quite good to me!). These amps and subs will take the abuse as long as u bed them in properly, then u can spank them all day long!

spoke to someone at my work and he said to bed them in for 20 hours, so did it. didnt put the gain over half way and did hammer it whilst it was bedding in, just let it play at a reasonable volume. seems to have done the trick!

Craig8 - have you ever personally had any mutant subs/amps in your car (or even run them in properly )?
True, they are not the best out there, by they do the job. R146 may just want a budget system to tide him over for a while

tbh the build quality isnt that bad, yeah its not brilliant but not that bad! I know several peolple around my area who have mutant equipment. Some have full installs, others just parts and none of them have had any problems with any off the equipment. None of its broken down, blown up or stopped working. Im assuming u work in some shop as u say uve had some returned to you. Maybe a bad batch loads have been returned/improper setting up??
ever considered R146 may be trying to keep costs as low as poss? What uve put up goes over a £100. If a budget has been set, the idea is to stick to it

yes, i hear the mutant gear all day in the shop and tbh the quality is reflected in the price - cheap
all im showing him is that if he can hold out for a couple of months or so, he can get much better equipment for his money, even if it means spending £50 quid more and he wont regret it
maybe if he goes to a shop and demo's as much kit as possible he might find that what could cost him a little extra could make him alot happier with his purchase
obviously i dont have a clue what im talking about though

I also work with mutant subs and amps and like wise I think its absolute tripe.
We have had loads back and they really don't sound that great.
If I were you Id look at possibly picking up something 2nd hand but of a much better quality. You won't regret it!!

People who buy the cheap stuff can't normally tell the difference between good sound quality and rubbish.
I've been in a car before were there was nothing but distortion and the owner loved it because it was really loud.

Agree'd - I have JBL 17's up front and 6x9's (hardly used now due to sub) and I found them to be excellent

Mutant subs....dont they have the same shape as the old kenwood subs, i think they look good for the money. Obviously ur not gonna get grade A, but if ur always skint like me then Mutant subs are the way to go (will probably get slated for this reply)

As allready said, its better to wait a little longer, save a few more quid and buy a well respected brand.
I have had a kenwood 10" sub and kenwood single channel bass amp for about 6 years now and its still going strong, one of the cheapo brands would have given up long ago i suspect.
Quality gear allways has a much better signal to noise ratio which basically means better quality sound and less didtortion.
Save up for good stuff,i personally rate kenwood very highly, but any of the well known brands like pioneer, alpine etc will be miles better than the cheap brands.
JBL is a half way house, not bad prices for decent gear.
