but 16xe has more tunning potential. i fitted a 1.6 with velos inlet, unichip etc and it was soo much faster than 1.4

used more fuel but well worth it. or if you can afford insurance save for c20xe, these can easily be fitted now with kits availble

you need to speak to broster or rob marriott about the x16xe. even though you could tune the x14xe up, it will always be down on torque compared to the 1.6.

in std form the swap is well worth it to get it both and drive them there doesnt seem to be much difference, but, if you live with each for a week the 1.6 is so so much better!

x14xe has 90 Bhp

Worth it IF your planning on tuning it. standard for standard i didn't notice a huge difference with mine...

ive got a highly tuned x16xe corsa gsi and a standard 1.4 sport (x14xe)

if you were going to tune the engine, why not start on the 1.4 and while you are doing that, buy a cheap x16xe and fully re-build it? when you are done, you can transfer all the bits over and you will have a good strong reliable tuned 1.6.

if you werent planning on tuning it i would just stick with a standard 1.4. theres not a massive difference between a 1.4 and 1.6 on the road in standard trim, i can keep up with standard 1.6 sports in my 1.4 quite easy, it comes down to the driver in the end.

basically all i was going to do was filter stainless decat and 4 branch i use the car everyday to go to work in and have seen a 1.6 engine at the right price, my girlfriend has a 1.4 sport also that the engine is knackered on so instead of getting another 1.4 engine i was going to get a 1.6 put it in mine an put my 1.4 in hers a lot of messing about lol, im not really bothered about massive performance, and as corsa 808says i can just and i mean just keep up with some corsa gsis around where i live, i used to have a 2.0 corsa but grew out of it, and then there is the insurance issue it is quite a bit more ofr a 1.6 than a 1.4 im really going to have to think this 1 over,

thanx alot for your replies and keep em comming

heres a spanner in your works and shameless plug for me. I have a 1.6 bottom end that you could use to rebuild either of your engines into a 1.6. All you would need to do is swap all your bits onto the bottom end fit a 1.6 exhaust cam which i have too and fit an x 16 xe which i have too. Pretty eay really and will work out cheaper then buying a complete 1600 engine

my 1.4 was tuned to the same as my 1.6, but only made 116bhp, and had a torque curve which looked like the himalayas

the 1.6 made 130bhp, and feels much stronger, id say its definitely worth it, unless you want a motorway car.....

i wouldnt bother for the fact that there isnt enough difference to substantiate higher insurance as converted, higher road tax, more likely for things to go wrong as its a conversion.

sell your car and buy a 1.6 would be easier unless it is highly modified and bits cant just be swapped over

insurance cost me an extra 60quid for year. that included unichip and velos inlet + uprated throttle body. ran so much better than 1.4 and was a big difference in pereformance. seems theres not much difference till you hit 3500rpm then it really goes
