In a month or so I'm going to need 2 new tyres and would imagine shortly after that I'll need the other 2 replacing.
So thinking I'll just get 4 new tyres at once. I'm not sure whether to go for the normal 205/40/17 tyres or get some Pirelli 195/40/17s.
Are there anymore pros and cons for the 195s to the ones I'm thinking of?
Pros - hopefully will be more room in the arches so wont catch as often
Cons - price. Handling?
Will it make the handling worse or will it actually be better? Is there anything else I need to know about the 195s?

195's advantage - cheaper tyres, softer ride, fill more arch
disadvantage - look crap
don't think it'll affect handling that depends on which tyres u go for and tread design

wrong way round mo.
195/40/17s are not common, they will be more expensive, harder ride, and smaller.

it well affect the handling but it wont be noticeable

Top ones are 205 - sidewalls will appear more "vertical"
Bottom ones are 195, sidewalls will appear to slope inwards like that. Hence why they give you a little more arch clearance as jake says.

i looked into getting 195/40 profile tyres but prices start from about £80 each.

theoretically less grip from the 195's,
however should get less tramlining on the 195's

nah, but cause of the weight of the corsa, you'll get better road hold with 195's. more surface area the more the weights spread out and less pressure on each section etc etc....

id go for 195's if i were you,
with my 17's i have to kinda be careful when i got 2-3 passengers, your much less likely to have chunks coming out for that alone i would do it, be it for the rears only
tramlining is also a pain as im sure u already know so 195 should make it happen less often

how wide are your wheels mate?
just because you are going to narrower tyre doesnt mean you will have less grip, a lot of cars are over tyred anyway. most of it comes down to suspension anyway and keeping the tyre flat on the floor.
