Hi.

I'm well aware of running in subs as to not damage it.

On monday, im ASSURED my new Alpine HU will arrive (9812RB). It will be the first time i will be running my Diamond comps and RE sub.
Cant fcuking wait!

I will only have these comps and sub in my car.
Running off of 2 amps, 2channel for comps, mono for sub.
No other speakers in my car at all, the HU is ONLY powering these 2 amps.

The HU has a sub out.
And my Mono amp will have a bass controller, and obviously the Gain & Freq. adjustor.
I'm assuming the HU will ALSO have a sub level controller.

So i dont quite know where to start with these levels for the sub.

(im guessing i'll just start amp bass level at lowest, sub level on HU at 1/2 way, and turn gain all the way down, and slowly increase to 1/2 of the way round??)

I also have a 2channel amp powering comps which have never been used before. I'm assuming that the pre-out for a 'normal' amp wont have a level adjustor as the sub out does.

and dont really know what to do here... So again, i'm guessing for my comps i'll just do the normal thing of slowly incresing gain from bottom to about 1/3 of the way round over a space of a week??

Any usefull help would be much appreciated. Not really wanting ppl to moan saying i shouldve brought focal etc

some poeple say theres no need to run the subs in but, if i was you i would....... drop a test tone cd in playing at around 40hz or lower and leave it a couple of hours running with a battery charger on... should be ok then i woulnd really worry to much just dont hammer the crap out of it straight away.... if its the re sx 15 as mine is you will find in the right box it will drop low and if its in a spl box you ll be running about 141 + dB

idealy you need to scope the amp and head unit to make sure theres no clipping going to the speaker....... if your amp is running under 1000rms i would worry about scoping it but if its a big monster amp 1000rms + make sure it scoped other wise your gonna do some damage

unfort i dont come here to often but i have a new site with alot of dB drag people on there if u need any ifon have a look on here www.sparkz.org.uk and one of us could help.......if u wander why its so quiet we only up datded the forum last week as we lost the dtabase on the old one :S

cheerz.

Well it not a monster amp. its the Rockford Type RF X6 amp. Got a certificate with it saying 1012wrms@2ohm (or there abouts) and its the RE SX12 woofer.

Where abouts do i put the gain, and about what volume do i play these low notes on?
I'm not planning on ever entering any competitions, i just dont wana see smoke pouring out of my sub box again .

I cant do any damage from having gains to LOW can i? All it means is, is that my subs under performing? because i think id rather have it low and not have to worry about melting.

im assuming a local scoping place will set everything to the perfect levels...?

i very much dought you will even give the sx a run for its money with that amp lol you wont see anysmoke with that... if i was you i would set the amp on around 3/4 the seperate volume control on full and you should be ok...id try and set the freq crossover around 50-60 hz or there abouts.... if u have a bass boost or anything else on the amp to alter how it sounds be very carefull using bass boost etc etc as these introduce clipping at higher levels.... most of this is personel preference but theres a starting point for you. If you were closer id helpyou.... as reagrds scoping i wouldnt worry with that amp, just be mindfull when running the system loud, check how warm the coil is and watch the cone to see hows it reacting to the power

Well its a 1000wrms amp, driving a 1000wrms woofer... ...i kind of thought that WOULD be giving the sub 'a run for its money'

To clarify -Your preference would be;
amp gain 3/4 of the way UP
bass boost on amp kept down (bcoz of potential clipping)
freq. cross over set to 50-60Hz
'seperate volume control on full' - does that mean 'Sub out level' on full?

with comps, they are 150wrms@4ohm, and amp is 125wrms@4ohm, so im guessing i can keep the gains kind of high on that amp too...?

Rightio, but what am i checking for when looking at the cone?
And how warm is too warm, Should the centre of the cone ALWAYS be cold...? should it even get warm if im only passing its recomended wrms through it...?

So many questions

Thanks for your help
