Does anyone know what is needed to drive in Australia? Im thinking about buying a cheap car out there and using it, then flogging it before i leave.
Was wondering whether i would be ok to drive on my current licence and what there regulations were like on insurance, tax and MOT 
Any help would be great

I hired a Holden Commodore V6 when I was in Sydney for 2 weeks in January... I only had to provide my driver's license number from the photo bit of my license.
Not sure what the score is with regards to driving a car you own - presumably you would have to provide a fixed address to the RTA (their equivalent of the DVLA)?

My sister is going to New Zealand at end of the month, she says running a car is ment to be very cheap and the best way to get around!!

hey Nova, your UK license is fine, im still using mine to drive with. when you buy a cheap car (loads of em here), you need to insure it, and make sure it has a green slip (MOT kind of) and also car registration. Rego is very similar to tax disc. Most cars will have one with remaining time left, but green slip has to be completed by new owner which will cost around $100. Insurance is fairly easy going

Did have a quick look at rental but it was £200 a week because i was under 25, and at that price it would cost a fortune for 3 months!

cool cheers mate Whats the price of insurance over there like compaired to here and how would i stand just for a few month policy? Only gonna get a cheap runabout to drive down the west coast

insurance would be no more than $200 i suspect, although depends on car etc etc, £200 is less than £100.

think you are fooked on that bit, unless you can find somewhere to have residence for that purpose solely.
