Apart from using a steering wheel puller , what would be the most effective way of getting it off ?

lol, no other way i am affraid i made my own puller as the vaux ones break straight away

DONT hit it with a hammer like most ppl tend to say - the column is collapsable - i learnt the hard way

4mm steel plate shaped slighty into a hook shape at the bottom. then connected to a slidding hammer.

take it to a garage it is extremely difficult if u havnt got the tools

no i tried most other ways first, go to vaux and ask nicely if they can remove the wheel for ya and u can fit it in like 3 minutes.

The top of the column where the nut is. Hitting it stuns the wheel and it pops off

u one side a mate the other and just pull (very hard) it off
worked for me

just make sure u loosen but dont take the nut off else you'll crack yourself in the face with it

Puller is like 12 quid from a local parts shop. Use it and take it back. thats what i did lol

Mine came off with some serious pulling around... its kinda funny i gave it a really good tug and nothing happened, and i needed to move my car otuta the drive to let my mum out, left the nut off coz i thought well it aint gonna come off easily and when i was steering back in it jus popped off in me hands lol. Think its coz i was pulling it 2wards me slightly as it was turning so it worked it off gradually all the way round? worth a try.. cheaper

I broke 3 pullers tring to get the wheel off my old corsa...

ended up going at it with a damn hacksaw in the end!

The puller wouldn't work for me - it got stuck trying to get it over the lump at the bottom of the 2 spoker. Arse.
