Currently I have a Nvidia Geforce Ti 4200 8x AGP that I am looking to upgrade

I was looking at the Nvidia Geforce FX5900XT until I read this review of the 6600GT AGP:

http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.aspx?i=2277

I need the 8x AGP not a PCI-E, but I can't find anywhere that has the 6600GT AGP in stock

Dabs have them at £132.98 but no stock http://www.dabs.com/uk/ProductView?quicklinx=3K55

Any help finding one would be appreciated

overclockers.co.uk are very good at having lots of graphics cards in stock! I personally would go with a 9800pro for around the sort of money you have as a 6600gt isnt that great really.

In an ideal world tho you would spend £200 and get the 6800le which is very good value for money!

FPMSL not that great. The 6000 series Nvidia's are much better performers than similar priced X800 chips.

The 6800GT is currently still the fastest on the market.

I believe certain board manufacturers are only releasing PCIe versions of the 6000 series. Try MSI, i believe they have AGP8x versions of the 62/66/6800

If you got a 9800 pro Bart, pop off the fan on the card and see if it has an R360 core, then you can have an 9800xt for free

edited for silly mistake

6800GT is quality, will easily clock to ultra speeds.

Looks like stock has been slow to roll out, i was lucky to get one from dabs a couple of weeks ago.

fook me does half-life 2 look good on this car, using the new DX code path which the older cards wont support.

Is this when you use the console to force hl2 to use dx9?

How do you do this?

Just had an email from dabs, they are taking orders for the xfx 6600gt

Sure i read an article where you cant force it to use dx9? remember they were trying, might have been on Toms.

i originally bought an FX 5900 Ultra, daddy of the 5 series cards, technically this is a dx9 card, but halflife sees it as an 8.1. Think they forced it to run in dx9 but the performance was wank. So sold it on ebay and went for a 6800GT.

Surely Half life2 supports the 6800GT as a full DX9.0c compatable card?? Why are you forcing it? IT should be in setup as DX8 - Hardware and DX9 - Hardware. Mine is the same except DX9 is software mode
